WHAT WE DO

Four Lines Of Work

One ask started all of this: Help me step into the role, and help me with my board.

Four lines of work grew from it.

01

Board Work

Helping a small board do its best work, from strategy to oversight.

  • Strategic planning facilitation, from the first session to a three-year plan the board owns.
  • Board education days that leave directors clearer on their role, not just better informed.
  • Director onboarding that brings new members up to speed quickly.
  • Board self-assessments that show where you are steady and where you are strained.
  • Steady help through a transition: a new ED, a governance reset, a board finding its footing.

An annual board education day is often the simplest first step. It gives directors shared footing, surfaces the real questions, and shows quickly where deeper help would pay off.

Ten Questions For You takes five minutes on your own, about your own work as a director. Twenty Questions For Your Board takes twenty minutes together, about how your board actually works. Neither one scores you. They point you at the one thing worth doing next.

02

ED Work

For the executive director in the hardest stretch of the job.

  • Coaching through the first 90 days, when everyone is watching and nothing feels safe to say out loud.
  • The hard conversations with the board, funders, and staff, prepared together.
  • Succession planning and culture-setting after a leadership change.
  • Team development and staff survey work.

The first 90 days set the tone for the next three years. You do not have to work them out alone.

03

External And Presence

Being known before you need to be.

Most organizations meet their community when something is already at stake. A change people did not expect. A decision that affects a neighbourhood. A funder or a government asking questions. The work is far easier when the relationships are already there.

  • Consultation with a community, done properly rather than as a formality. Sessions people leave feeling heard, and a record you can stand behind afterwards.
  • A light, practical rhythm for staying in touch with government, which we call The 30-Minute Quarter.
  • Funder and partner positioning, and the reporting that builds confidence over time.
  • Profile in your sector: speaking, panels, and the relationships that open doors.
  • A clear-eyed read on how you are seen, and where you may be exposed.

Doing good work and being known for it are two different jobs. Most organizations only have capacity for the first. We make the second one manageable. Whether you are a settlement agency preparing for a community meeting, or a business association whose members need to be heard by the town they operate in, the craft is the same. Listen first. Accept what you hear. Build from there.

Who Knows You Before You Need Them is a fifteen-minute self-check on the relationships outside your organization’s walls, and whether the right people would take your call before you needed something. It ends with three things you could do this quarter.

04

Advisory

Straight, trusted counsel for the moments you would rather not handle alone.

  • The diplomatic path through a tough situation, usually about a person.
  • The hard email you need help writing.
  • The board problem a chair cannot raise out loud.
  • Steady counsel between the big projects, when a question just needs an honest read.

The conversation you keep putting off. We help you get it right.

Not Sure Which One You Need?

Most people are not. That is what the first conversation is for.
